Weather and Snow Related Items

In case of inclement weather or other emergency, we ask your cooperation and understanding when decisions are made to ensure the safety of our students.

As we evaluate weather conditions it may be necessary to delay the opening of school, dismiss early, or close schools for the day. Please be assured we do not make these decisions lightly.

Schedule for Two-Hour Delayed Opening
  • School hours will be 10:50 to 3:30 (doors open at 10:40 AM).
Schedule 90 Minute Early Dismissal
  • School hours will be 8:50 to 2:00.

As we do make those weather-related decisions, we will contact you directly regarding school operations through our School Messenger system. School Messenger provides the opportunity for the family of each student to have up to six contact numbers (including phone, cell phone and e-mail).

If you did not designate your contact numbers when you completed the Student Information Form at the start of the school year, please contact the office to assure that your information is up to date.

School Messenger will automatically dial all contact numbers as soon as weather-related decisions are made. You can continue to count on us to do the following:

  • We will make every effort to announce weather-related decisions by 6AM.

  • In addition to School Messenger, we will communicate these decisions to you on:

            • Our website www.umasd.org
            • Viking Channel (Comcast Cable Channel 28 and Verizon Channel 32)
            • Our information line (610) 205-6460
            • Fox 29 News on television or online (My FOXPhilly.com.  Just click on WEATHER then school closings.)
            • KYWNews (Upper Merion’s broadcast code is 307)
            • Newsradio 1060 AM
            • Newsradio school closing line (215) 224-1060
            • Television - CBS Channel 3

Consider making contingency plans with neighbors, friends or relatives, to assure that your child has adult supervision and a place to go in case of late starts, early dismissals, or school closings. (Especially in the case of young children, please talk with them about these possibilities and “practice” what they are to do.)

It is vital that you keep phone numbers and contact information up to date so we can contact you in the case of an emergency with your child or an emergency school closing. Please contact the main office in writing with any changes.

Please prepare your children for what they should do in case of an early dismissal.
