State Mandated Health Screenings

Upper Merion Area School District health screenings are performed annually in compliance with the Pennsylvania Public School Code.

Height/Weight/Body Mass Index Measurement (Growth)--all grades each year. Growth screening results are sent home each year.

Body Mass Index (BMI) is a screening tool used to assess underweight, overweight, and the risk of overweight. BMI is calculated from body weight adjusted for height, age and gender. BMI in children is gender specific because body mass changes as children grow, and boys and girls differ in BMI as they mature.

More information about Body Mass Index for children and teens can be found at: https://www.cdc.gov/healthyweight/

Vision Screening- All grades, each year. This screening is not a substitute for a comprehensive eye examination by an eye care specialist. If your child fails this screening, a referral will be sent home.

Hearing Screening- Grades K, 1, 2, 3, 7 and 11. This screening is not a substitute for an audiology examination by a health care provider. If your child fails this screening, a referral will be sent home.
